Signing On as Editor

Initially, I signed on to the film as the editor. The project was thrilling, and I was eager to bring Charles’ vision to life. As the editing process progressed, I found myself increasingly involved in the storytelling aspect of the documentary.

THE STORY

A Vision Beyond Reality

Charles Werb’s life is a testament to the power of dreams. Born in South Africa and later emigrated to Australia, Charles experienced a midlife crisis that led him to spend a year reflecting on a Brisbane beach. It was here that he conceived the idea of a machine that sails on snow.

The Inspiration

Charles’ inspiration for the snow-sailing machine, later named “Papa One,” was deeply personal. During a final visit to his dying father, he shared his design, receiving his father’s enthusiastic approval. After his father’s tragic death, a serendipitous flight over the Antarctic coastline solidified Charles’ resolve to pursue his dream.

The Adventure

“The Chase” captures Charles’ journey with “Papa One” from his garage to the Red Dot Design Museum, and beyond. The film chronicles his expedition to Antarctica and subsequent adventures around the globe, showcasing his unwavering determination and innovative spirit.
